How Do They Lose So Much Weight on the Biggest Loser?
The show, is in its fourth season and has attracted seven million viewers this fall! Most looking for inspiration to lose weight. 250,000 obese Americans sent audition tapes and only 18 made the show. “The Biggest Loser” has also built a multi million-dollar franchise selling products and services to viewers hoping to lose weight. The show’s first two books were best sellers, as were its two workout DVDs.
The premise of the show:
Eighteen obese contestants compete in a boot camp atmosphere to win $250,000, a new body and a new life. Each team is assigned a trainer. Every week a weigh-in to determines which team is the “The Biggest Loser,” that is lost the most weight. The team that lost the least total team amount of weight must vote off one of their own players. Usually they choose to vote off a team member who is not making enough effort or one they perceive as a threat for the next stage of the game, when the teams merge.
Unfortunately, the show can actually depress many of dieters, especially when their steady weight loss cannot compare to the double-digit weight loss contestants pull off each week. If you’re losing 2 pounds a week and not watching The Biggest Loser, you probably think your diet is going great. However, if you’re watching “The Biggest Loser,” 2 pounds a week can seem pretty pathetic.
